Ferrari 308 MOT, but it all goes wrong
Ferrari 308 freshen up continues, but it doesn't go to plan.
Preparing for the annual MOT, but the journey there cracks the new front spoiler. Although it passed its MOT, the indicator stalk disintegrated, leaving me without lights, indicators, or wipers.
Back into the garage!
Please remember, I am not a trained mechanic, just a numpty with a tool set. What I do may not be the best / correct way, but I'm learning as I go.
Thanks for watching.

Ferrari 308 back on the road. Radiators refitted and new spoiler in place. Front end restoration

The 308 radiators are refreshed and re-fitted plus I randomly decide to strip down the air horn. I discover an issue with my temporary Spal heater blower wiring so still investigating. The Ferrari finally hits the road again with a shiny new front spoiler. So all is finished? Well, not quite. Ferrari 308 Lucas cooling fan refresh and Spal heater blower fitment. Front end restoration

The 308 Lucas cooling fans are stripped and refreshed with new brushes plus I fit the missing Spal heater blower. However, my particular year set up appears to be the first to get a two speed fan only through a resistor of some sort that is very hard to trace or get anybody who knows anything about it. Great work. The heater fan situation is a bit tricky as the setup for this changed several times. I have an early 1977 car and my heater is only an on off switch no speeds. Yours seems to be an intermediate setup between the later one wire cars and the early ones. I wish I could help with what the wiring looks like. With how far you have the front apart hopefully you can trace the wires back. If I had to guess, the resistor probably lives up near where the heater valve is by the brake booster.

My traveller seems to sit too low at the back as if the springs have settled. I'm reluctant to but new springs as I've heard most of what's on the market isn't great quality and would also settle quite quickly. Any suggestions? Maybe lowering blocks like yours?

    • @workinprogress1098

Once you get around to it, I'd be interested to know how easy it is to change your rear derailleur cable and housing? That's assuming you do your own mechanics? Also wondering as the previous poster how this compares to a road bike. I imagine with slicks in, say, a 32 or 35 there wouldn't be much difference.

Thanks for your message. I think I'll struggle with the routing, so we'll see. I struggled at first with the change as its slower and felt like harder work. But it's changed my mindset and I'm enjoying just being out more. Each ride is an adventure as I've got the ability to see where different paths lead. I was grinning the whole way in my last ride, which in itself speaks volumes. And I've not ridden the road bike since!

Many thanks for your video. I watched your original unboxing plus this with great interest. As someone who also bought a 2nd hand defy as a first foray back into cycling and then ungraded to zonda wheels the parallels were uncanny. • @workinprogress1098

Oh wow, that is a coincidence. At first, yes, I did wonder if I'd made a mistake to be honest. Now though, I'm really starting to gel with the bike and instead of trying to better my times (which were never that good), I'm more about finding new routes and enjoying being out more. I like the ability to mix road and off road, (won't call it gravel as its more mud). The last ride, I didn't stop grinning which says a lot. 👍🏼

It sounds like you need to replace the fuel filter - might also explain the electrical draw on your led light video. I also didn’t see new gaskets between the isolation plate and the intakes - that might explain a high idle as you may have an air leak. Quite common as the base of those carbs tend to warp with over tightening of the hold down nuts.

To make the bumper profile and plan view match the bodywork you need to first take a squeeze cast and use that as a drag template. So if its 'relatively' flat in the middle you'd be adding polyester filler as dictated by the drag template to ensure the bumper has a matching plan and profile relative to the body.

I'm starting to think the same TBH. It's not as easy to put on as it should be. I like to remove and clean after each ride to avoid grit scratching the paint, and it should be easier than it is.

Hi, I had those in past, if you actully flip those velcro straps that gel part on the strap has contact with the frame that should stop slip.

I've been using these for years. The one drawback is that front fender slipping down. Always be careful to cinch it down extra tight.

Gravel is great for those tracks and trails.
